Sonan Bunkers Expands into the Americas with the Launch of SONAN ENERGY Panama

10/1/2025

Panama City, Panama — With over a decade of successful operations in marine fuel supply and a global presence in London, Greece, Rotterdam, Oslo, Brazil, and Dubai, Sonan Bunkers continues its strategic expansion with the opening of its first office in the Americas: SONAN ENERGY PANAMA S.A.

This new hub reinforces the company’s commitment to global coverage and the transition toward more sustainable fuels. Panama, as a maritime hub and a central node of international trade, will be key to serving our clients across the region—from Canada to Argentina—while maintaining the efficiency and strong financial backing that defines Sonan Bunkers.

The operation will be led by Hernán Ortiz, Managing Director, with over 30 years of experience in the maritime industry and marine fuel supply across the Americas, the Middle East, and Europe.

“The launch of Sonan Energy Panama is more than an expansion — it’s a reflection of our group’s evolving identity and our unwavering commitment to the future of marine energy. As we transition from traditional bunkering to a broader energy-focused model, we are investing in cleaner fuels, smarter solutions, and deeper client coverage across the Americas and beyond. Our vision is clear: to be the most agile, transparent, and forward-thinking energy partner in the maritime sector.
We are actively hiring top-tier talent, strengthening every office, and building a culture rooted in integrity, innovation, and service. Sonan Energy Panama is a strategic cornerstone in this journey, and we will do whatever it takes to ensure our clients receive unmatched expertise and support — wherever they operate.”
– Graham Furse, CEO

“The opening of Sonan Energy Panama marks a fundamental step in the growth strategy of the company and in its commitment to leading the transition towards cleaner energy solutions in the maritime sector,” said Hernán Ortiz. “I bring a deep understanding of the South American market, strong knowledge of the local culture, and more than 30 years of experience in the industry. Together with the dynamism, proactivity, and flexibility of the Sonan Group, we are confident this will be the perfect combination to effectively meet the needs of both, existing and new clients. I am truly excited to join the Sonan Group and look forward to continuing our growth in close cooperation with all the offices of the group.”
